Transmission of patrimony (property, rights and obligations) left by a deceased person to one or more living persons, according to the provisions of the Civil Code of Québec or the wishes of the deceased. A person's estate begins with death. If the deceased did not leave a will, the estate is liquidated in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Code of Québec.
